How To Reduce Your Blog's Bounce Rate?

Posted On // Leave a Comment
This post basically explains the following questions: What are Analytics?? What is a bounce rate?? How vital is it to your blog?? How to reduce the bounce rate of your blog?? Once you build a website or a blog, your primary aim is to increase the traffic to your site/blog, in other words, you try to attract as many people as possible. This could be achieved by the adding your posts to various social bookmarking sites, networking sites, participating in forums and so on.

Do you think, it is enough if we just increase the traffic to our blog??? Definitely not!!! You need to analyze the traffic or statistics(analytics) of your blog. So, What are Analytics? To keep it very simple, it is a tool to measure your site's performance. It displays various data regarding your blog and bounce rate is one such data. Most of the newbies install Google Analytics on their blogs but they do not know, how to interpret these data. I restrict myself to explain only about "Bounce Rate" in this post.

So, What is a Bounce Rate? Wikipedia defines it as, "Bounce rate is a term used in web site traffic analysis. It essentially represents the percentage of initial visitors to a site who “bounce” away to a different site, rather than continue on to other pages within the same site." I feel the statement is pretty self-explanatory.

To keep it very simple, bounce rate simply represents those percentage of visitors who move away to some other site after visiting a page on your website. You may find the percentage for "Bounce Rate" on the right corner below the graph once you log in to your Google Analytics Account. Higher the bounce rate, more the number of people leave your blog after a single web page visit. As per the definition, an ideal percentage of bounce rate would be zero. Practically speaking, a bounce rate below 60% is good for any blog. So, our only task is to make him/her stay in our blog or in other words, just get the second click out of the visitor. Though, it appears to be very easy, it is one such area that even probloggers constantly work upon.. I am pretty sure few ideas would have cropped if you clearly understood the post till this. You may implement your ideas but, do consider the following methods in reducing the bounce rate.

1. Clean Template: The first impression is always the best impression and you can gain that best impression only when your blog looks clean and tidy. It is not necessary that it should look very professional but, it should be clean. I mean the widgets should be placed properly, broken links should be updated and so on.

2. Quality Content And Keywords: Content is always the king!! So, it is very important that your blog provides quality content. Please, ensure that the keywords are relevant to the content of your blog. It is important that both the keywords and content go hand in hand or else you end up providing the wrong information to the search engines. By doing this, you lose the second click from the visitor.

3. Internal Links: This serves to be the most effective way of reducing a blog's bounce rate. When you provide links which are relevant to the content, within your blog, it is obvious that the user makes a click on it and thereby, he keeps hopping around your blog. In fact, you end up boosting your page views and back links too.

4. Related Posts: The last factor which I would suggest to reduce the bounce rate would be the related posts widget. I recommended every blogger to add this widget which is given by Blogger at the end of every post. It will have a tremendous effect in reducing your bounce rate and increase the page views of your site. or try using Linkwithin.com which now i am using for my blog.

As far as I know, the above four methods will definitely reduce the bounce rate. To be very frank, even I am currently working on reducing the same for my site. I So, I appreciate any ideas from your side as well. Leave them as comments below this post and I assure you that I will include them in my next series of post.

10 Rare Blogger Tips And Tricks For Blogspot Bloggers

Posted On // Leave a Comment
blogger blogspot tips tricks
Hi friends i thought to write this post and share these article with you about "10 rare blogspot tips and tricks" I've picked up from other bloggers or learned from my experience with blogspot.

Before we move on to the tips I must say that compared to other free blog services, blogspot is better, simple, powerful and gives you a lot of freedom and flexibility. But when you go on using it you notice it is very crude and lacks many features. I think these 10 tips will greatly help you over come those short comings in blogspot and give your blogspot blog a more professional look. So here are the 10 blog tips for your blogspot blog. Please use the comments to let me know if you want to know more about any of these tips and also to add your own tips and tricks for blogspot bloggers.

1. How to track All recent commentsFor most blogspot users tracking and responding to recent comments is a major problem. But there is a easy way to track your most recent comments left anywhere in your blog, be it in your latest post or in a old post somewhere in the archives. Blogspot provides a aggregated comment feed where you can see your blog's 25 most recent comments.

The comment feed URL for your blog is:
YourBlogName.blogspot.com/feeds/comments/full

E.g. Comment feed for TSKSOFT blog is:
http://tsksoft.blogspot.com/feeds/comments/full

2. Add a Menu Bar A menu bar helps visitors navigate a blog easily and also gives it a professional outlook. Beautiful Beta explains

3. Remove the nav bar The navigation or nav bar at the top of blogspot blogs is a eyesore and makes the blog look unprofessional. It can also cause a lot of trouble because of visitors clicking the "notify objectionable content" button, which will make your blog to be suspended for day's or even weeks until cleared by Blogspot administrators. You can get rid of the nav bar by making the simple modification explained in this post.

4. Change blog post title tagsYou can be losing a lot of potential search traffic because of the default way Blogspot displays blog post heading in search engines. To overcome this you must change your blog post title tag from the default: "Blog name" + "Post title" to appear as "Post title" first and then the "Blog name" in search engine.

5. Install a blog traffic counter Blogpost not having a inbuilt traffic counter is a major short coming. So make sure you install at least a basic traffic counter in your blogspot blog. I have installed both SiteMeter and Google Analytics to track and analyze visitors to this blog.

6. Best way to stop spam comments
Spam comments is a major problem in blogspot. I find the best way to fight spam in blogspot is to enable "word verification" for comments. Ever since did it I haven't got a single spam comment. To do it, go to your blog Dashboard's "Settings" tab section and enable "word verification" for comments.

7. Minimise or Remove Site wide Links & Blogrolls Google can be a huge traffic driver to your blog and the PageRank Google assigns to your blog has a huge impact on the amount of traffic you get from Google. As Google PageRank is calculated from the number of incoming and outgoing links to your blog, sitewide links and huge blogroll in your sidebar reduce your PageRank. So it's better if you have a separate blog post for Related Links and Blogroll and link to those posts from the menu bar or side bar.

8 Insert AdSense inside Blog Posts
If you are thinking of making money from ads in blogspot blogs this will be invaluable. AdSense ads are reported to perform best when they are placed inside blog post, specially between the post title and content.

9 Add social bookmark links after every post Social Bookmarking sites like Digg, Stumble Upon etc. can be a huge traffic generator to your blog. So why not induce readers to bookmark and market your blog post by placing a link to these sites after every post.

10. Beware of free blogspot templates There are hundreds of free blogspot templates available in the internet. But be very selective when you choose a template for blogspot blogs. I've read about many complains from bloggers who have implemented third party templates having blog display problems and not getting indexed properly in search engines etc. due to bad code designs. Even India's ace blogspot blogger, Digital Inspiration is having problems with search engines due to his template. So I think it's wise to go for one of the default templates provided by blogspot. Thanks to the new facilities provided by the new blogger you can always make simple changes like put in a banner image etc. and make your blog standout in the crowd.

Hmm.... At last,Please pass your valuable feedback through comments on this article and let us know what do you think.
Have a nice day...!
Happy blogging.

11 Social Media Tools for Measuring and Monitoring Social Media Analytics

Posted On // Leave a Comment
Social Media Monitoring ? That’s an often heard but a meaningless term to many of us, right ? Many think that there is no ROI to Social Media, and while this topic is up for debate, I’m saying – yes and no.
No because, we know that we don’t get social for the game sake. And yes because, there are brands and products who needs numbers and obviously results, for getting social.
Many brands are jumping into the social media bandwagon these days and are experimenting with things, that’s a fact. Many a times, knowingly or unknowingly we have engaged with them as well. So it makes sense for them to monitor it and see what the results are like.
Having said that, monitoring social media is not the regular analytics stuff, that’s where many go wrong.

- Social Media shouldn’t be measured like SEO analytics on your site.

Heck, you won’t even see the referrals as good as an SEM campaign with social media. The thing is, in social media the action is elsewhere and not necessarily does reflect on your site referral stats all the time. Now, don’t get me wrong but I’m not trying to say that if you have something to sell, at the end of the day, it doesn’t. In fact it might sell, but just that the numbers might not look round as in an SEO analytics report.

- Social Media measurement has got to do with many “intangible” signals.

Now, this is a grey area but measuring social media (at least at this point of time) has got a lot to do with “intangible” or “volatile” signals. Like “feel good factor” for a brand, which can be perceived if you ask someone about it but never shows up in the referral stats.

- Social Media monitoring is probably a better word than Social Media measurement.

Why ? Because social media isn’t always about the numbers and formulas. Its more about the “perception”, “engagement” and “emotions”.
Phew ! I hope all that made sense. Now, on to some social media monitoring tools.

Honestly, many of these tools are “not-really-there”. But these are the ones we have anyways. They mostly focus on the numbers unfortunately, while some focus is also give to brand perceptions and engagement ratios. I’d like to see more tools coming up that focuses on the second part rather than the numbers. But that require some level of intelligence and I guess we’re all in a learning mode at the moment.

1. Radian6 – Social Media Monitoring Tool

Social Media Monitoring Tools
Ridian6 is a popular social media monitoring tool that helps you track quite a lot of signals and get insights into your brands performance on various social media channels. 2. Alterian Social Media Monitoring Tools

Alterian’s SM2 social media monitoring tool is one that gives advanced user behavior statistics, measures and analyze daily volume, demographics, location, positive or negative content tone, themes, and trending topics for your brand/product. A little too much details but a good tool nevertheless. This one too, covers a range of social media channels like digg/linkedin/facebook/twitter/delicious etc.

3. ScoutLabs Web based Social Media Monitoring Tool

An eye candy this one. Scout Labs social media monitoring tool is web based, and with an interface like Google Analytics it tracks almost all the online social media channels. It measures all the negative/positive signals and gives you reports based on the overall performaces.
Social Media Monitoring tool - web based

4. Real Time Social Media Monitoring Tool – Self Service

Self-service analytics software supports both qualitative and quantitative research, providing automated semantic analytics to allow you to explore insights and opinions about your products and brands on social media. It claims that the platform automatically captures large, relevant data sets through topic categorization.

5. Social Mention – Web based social media monitoring

Social Mention is a web based tool that makes it simple. It finds the brand mentions on any particular channel like blog/micro blogs and gives you a comprehensive idea of how the brand is perceived by users. It also gives you idea about the general “perception” of the brand in terms like positive, negative or neutral.

6. Brands Eye – Web based Social Media Measuring tool

This one is a bit different from the rest of the lot. It picks up signals from social media mentions and puts them into a different perspective unlike others. It finds you details about reputation, media origin and sentiments associated to your brand. Impressive !

7. Trendrr – Real Time Social Media Monitoring tool

Trendrr is a very web 3.0 kind app that does real time digital/social media monitoring for you. It analyzes social media channels for your brand mentions and puts them into perspective with numbers. Their data sources include everything from Blogs to Microblogs, Search, Social Networks and even Video.

8. Spark – Social Media Monitoring Visualizer tool

Spiral16′s spark takes social media analytics to a higher level, making it visual and thus making it easy to interpret and compare. They claim that the data is not the regular one, not limited to RSS feeds as a data source, instead combines proprietary crawler technology with public search engines. Spark captures a wider breadth of data and more goes into more detail about web pages, resulting in less spam and more relevant results.

9. MAP – Social Media Analytics Tool

Sysomos’s MAP – Media Analytics Program is another social media analytics program that focuses on the core concepts of social media – listen > measure > understand and engage. The tool provides real-time intelligence to manage products, brands and reputations on social media.

10. Attentio – Social Media Trends / Analytics Tool

Basically what attentio does is collect information from all social media channels related to brands and products, assimilate and study it to give you structured data. Its advantage is that its multilingual and have more of a brand centric focus.

11. DNA 13 Media Monitoring Tool

DNA 13′s media monitoring tool focuses more on a comprehensive media coverage model much like a PR tool. While I’m not a big fan of this model, the tool sure gives us a lot of insight on how and why a brand is performing well/bad on the media channels. They claim that they could provide a TV, print, online news, social media, and RSS feeds, all in one location “umbrella” strategy, which is interesting.

So, Which is the best Social Media Monitoring Tool out there ?

There is no one single social media measuring tool. You have here a bunch of the best social media monitoring tools out there. As I said, most of them do the same job of indexing and finding your brand in the discussions, but the ones that excel do a good job at finding value out of those analytics data, and putting things to perspective. The idea is to mix and match and make use of the best ones from the lot.
If you know more of such tools, please do let me know :)
